Most of us consider intelligence as a purely intellectual process, but recent
research
asks whether it doesn't combine both the head and the heart.
Specifically this research has demonstrated that there is a profound link between
productivity,
brain function, cardiovascular health and stress. Learning how to consciously
change the
quality of the internal signal from the heart to the brain enables individuals
to maximize cortical
function. This enhances clarity, creativity, innovation, insight, and
Emotional Intelligence,
which are the key factors determining
an individual's personal performance.
Research has shown that people with high Emotional Intelligence (EI) tend to do
better in life
than those with low EI, even if their traditional IQ scores are
lower.
This has been attributed to two things.
First, people with high EI scores show more innovation and creativity
in problem solving.
Second, people with high EI scores related to others better than someone
with low EI scores. Emotional and mental flexibility is correlated to success,
the results show.
Emotional Intelligence doesn't mean being soft - it means being intelligent about
emotions - a different way of being smart. Emotional intelligence is your ability
to acquire and apply knowledge from your emotions and the emotions of others in
order to be more successful and lead a more fulfilling life.
How Important Is Emotional Intelligence?
According
to Daniel Goleman, author of the best seller,
Emotional Intelligence: Why it Can Matter More than IQ:
 |
Emotional
Intelligence is twice as important as education and IQ combined
in predicting success. |
 |
Since
World War II, the average IQ has risen 24 points, however,
Emotional Intelligence has declined since then. |
 |
When
emotionally upset, people cannot remember, attend, learn,
or make decisions clearly. |
 |
Emotional
Intelligence can be learned. |
